VINTAGE DANSK DENMARK TEAK WOOD COMBINATION SALT SHAKER AND PEPPERMILL GRINDER DESIGNED BY THE DANISH ARTIST JENS HARALD QUISTGAARD (1919-2008)
This vintage Danish Modern combination salt shaker and pepper mill grinder designed by Jens Quistgaard for DANSK circa 1960’s measures 9 1/4 inches high to the tip of the plug and 2 3/4 inches maximum diameter at the bottom. This peppermill made of teak wood is verified by Dansk as model number 879. The top spherical wood plug is removable for loading the salt and the peppercorns are loaded from the bottom of the base to the side of the grinder mechanism. Marked on the bottom with raised letters:

CONDITION:
The peppermill has the slightest evidence of wear from normal use with a very small dent mark to the lip edge (see close-up photo), otherwise the peppermill is in very fine condition for its age. The grinder works very well.
Jens H. Quistgaard
was a Danish sculptor and designer, known principally for his work for the American company Dansk Designs, where he was chief designer from 1954 and for the following three decades. As a sculptor grounded in traditional handicrafts he quickly established a career as an industrial designer. From the mid-1950s his tableware and kitchenware designs became synonymous with Scandinavian Modern and found their way into millions of homes in the USA, Europe and Japan. His work is represented in major museums in Europe and the USA.
