RARE EMBELLISHED BLUE PAPER DAGUERREOTYPE MAT AND HALF PLATE DAG OF A COUPLE

I don't know whether this is European or American, but I have seen American daguerreotypes that utilized this style of blue paper mat. In fact, my first thought was that this is American.
This mat is supremely attractive. Unfortunately, it's hidden by the more modern frame, from which I've chosen not to remove it.
This was from the famous Jack Naylor (see also Thurman Naylor) Collection #2, as noted by the tag that comes with it.
The daguerreotype depicts a couple with wonderful body language. His arm is affectionately around her and her hand is over towards him, holding either a small box or a daguerreotype case. He's holding either a book or a rolled up document.
SIZE. I'm guessing that the daguerreotype is a half plate (5 1/2 x 4 1/4 inches). The mat opening is approximately 4 3/4 x 3 3/8 inches. The frame is approximately 7 3/8 x 6 1/8 inches.
CONDITION. Vertical wipes at far left and far right, where the white areas are. Someone obviously tried to hand clean the white residue. White residue all over. We’re guessing it’s some sulfuric reaction.
APPEARANCE. The mat is splendid and vibrant. Bright blue with gold embellishments. The daguerreotype has wonderful contrast and lighting and was made by a master, but is unfortunately tainted with the residue and subsequent wipes.
NOTE ABOUT THE FRAME. I would expect any buyer to remove the modern frame. I kept it intact since it has the tag linking it to the Jack Naylor sale, but it’s historically incorrect.
