Incredible Illinois 17 Size 23 Jewel Sangamo Special Railroad Grade Pocket Watch

Description

The movement, manufactured by the Illinois Watch Company, is a 17 size, 23 jewel, stem wind, lever set, model 13, Sangamo Special, railroad grade, pocket watch in open face configuration.  It features screw set raised gold jewel settings, gold train wheels, jeweled motor barrel (60 hour), Reed style micrometric regulator, and beautiful nickel movement finish with red engraving inlay.  Serial number of 4558155 puts the date of production to 1925.  Winding and setting both function smoothly as they should.  Movement is in very good condition showing light scuffs and scratches to the finish as well as some minor oxidation on the ratchet wheel.  Watch runs great and keeps good time.
The double sunk white enamel "arrows out" dial, signed Illinois, is in excellent condition showing very faint hairline cracks towards 8 o'clock of the center hole visible under magnification. The signature blued steel diamond hands are in good condition with some minor oxidation on the end of the hour hand as well as oxidation to the seconds hand.  Dial features extra heavy Arabic numerals for hours with light margins.
The 14k white gold filled open face case, manufactured for Illinois by Wadsworth, is in excellent condition showing only small amount of wear through on the band of the pendant and edges of the fixed bow as well as a few light scratches scattered across the exterior. Engraved detail on bow and case frame are in good condition showing nice definition.  Bezel, case back, and cuvette all snap tightly closed.  All three case hinges are in excellent condition with no play.  Cuvette is signed Sangamo Special both inside and out.  Crown is slightly worn but has good grip for many more years of winding.  Mineral glass crystal has some light scratches to it's surface but no chips or cracks.  Excluding the bow and pendant, the case measures 51.3 mm across.
