1955 Pebble Beach Road Races LOTUS-MG Mk 6 Alan LeMay Car Photo PrintContent of this listing © But for the Love of Cars. All rights reserved.
Historic image of the safety inspector going over Allan LeMay's Lotus-MG Mk 6 at the sixth Pebble Beach road races in 1955.
THE PHOTO SUBJECT: Pre-race inspection on the Lotus-MG Mk 6, Pebble Beach road races, 1955
The technical inspector gives the early Lotus front suspension a look during the pre-race safety review. This MG-powered Lotus Mk 6, driven in the race by Harry Hanford, is remarkable in that it shows one of the first rollbar installations on a racing sports car. This car was one of the first examples of the marque on the West Coast.
The race though the pines was held annually from 1950 to 1956, when the event was moved to Laguna Seca, a track specially constructed for sports car racing, where the fast cars of the day could be driven at speed without concern for the hazards posed by pine trees, tight corners, and dirt surfaces on the Pebble Beach circuit.
