    Description

1/6 PLATE DAGUERREOTYPE - MAN WEARING SPECTACLES - IN BEAUTIFUL CASE BY BOGARDUS -
A rare offering of a sixth plate by the renown operator Abraham Bogardus. In this fine portrait, the intelligent presence is witnessed through the spectacles most likely necessary for the daily tasks of his occupation. A bold effort I might add, with direct eye contact and no reflections...a true testament to an experienced Daguerreian. The gentleman has a very distinctive face and finely groomed hair. The interior of the case has a coveted green velvet plush adjacent to his likeness. Note: The location stamped on the exterior of the case is confirmed on John Craig's Daguerreian Registry as being Bogardus studio of operation from 1849 and 1851. A truly remarkable sixth plate for any advanced collector of these fine silver mirrors with memory. Good luck to my winning bidder.

Please view my detailed photos for the actual condition of this cased image and as part of my description. The sixth plate has been resealed with P90 archival tape and a new sheet of glass applied. Again bold contrast, wonderful tonal range and expert sharpness are all attributes of this effort. The plate itself is in nearly mint condition, with only a few minor spots clearly seen from my listing photos. The case has a nicely restored leather hinge, the rarely seen green velvet pillow and both working latches remain present. A strong portrait of a learned gentleman by an expert in the craft of the Daguerreian process. I will carefully ship this item to the winning bidder by way of Priority Mail.
